Mass protest calls for Agrarian reform, village reform and ecological justice
Give back our customary lands. Mass protest in Jakarta 12 January 2011
12 January 2011
A mass protest calling for agrarian reform, village reform and ecologial justice was held in Jakarta today.
A statement was issued by a broad alliance of farmers, workers, indigenous peoples, women, youth students and civil society organisations called the Joint Secretariat of the Indonesia Movement for Recovering People's Rights. The statement declared resistance to "land-grabbing facilitated by the SBY-Boediono regime throughout Indonesia." It highlighted two recent land cases - Mesuji in Lampung, Sumatra, and Bima in West Nusa Tenggara, which have led to violence against local people.
